God’s Song
I am the trees, and the wind that blows through them
I am the sky and the sun and the stars
I am the dirt and I am the Earth and the dew in the morning
I am the rain and the hail and the sleet
I am the frost and the ice and I am the shiver that crawls up your spine
And I am your goosebumps
I am the sweat on your brow and I am the heat of the scorching sun on a hot summer’s day
I am air and I am water, I am the condensation of your breath on the rearview mirror
I am turbulent seas and roaring thunder and waves crashing on the shore
I am still water and blades of grass softly bending with the breeze
I am a soaring eagle and I am a cat basking in the sunlight
I am ashes to ashes and dust to dust
I am a raven, seeing all and knowing all
And I know that I know nothing
I am everything and I am nothing
I am the light at the end of the tunnel and I am darkness at the end of the road
I am alone and I am surrounded by others
I am never alone because I am everywhere,
And yet I am nowhere
I am the last glimpse of daylight and the first crack of dawn
I am watching and I am alive and my heart pulsates as the blood of the universe courses through my veins
I am every breath I take, even the last
And with the last breath
I will know that I know everything because
I know nothing
And there will be peace
Because ashes to ashes and dust to dust and
I am the light that illumines the air as it carries me away
I am embers and I am the fiery blue heat of a flame
I am the coldest day in winter
I am 30 days of night and I am 30 nights of day
And in the end I will know peace
Because I will know there is no end
There is only the beginning,
Beginning after beginning,
And eternal return forevermore
And I will know that I am nothing
Because everything is nothing
And I will not fear the darkness nor the light
For I will know that they are one and the same
And exist on the same plane
And to fear my darkness is to fear my light
To fear my nothingness is to fear everything
For it is to fear the continuity of my existence,
Of all existence,
Of the transience and yet eternity of everything,
And yet all amounts to nothing.
And I will know peace
I will know peace because I will know that I know nothing and my spirit will soar
Just as it is deeply rooted to the ground
At last my nothingness will join eternity
And I will know peace.
